GENERAL SURGERY
Family Medical Center provides surgical care from minor surgery, to
laparoscopy, to complicated life-saving procedures. Our surgeons perform
inpatient and outpatient procedures on an elective, urgent or emergency
basis. Surgery is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Surgical patients receive the same personalized care that all patients are accustomed to receiving from their primary physician at Family Medical Center.
For minor procedures involving moderate sedation, two surgical rooms are available at the Clinic’s offices in Little Falls. Conventional surgery or same-day (laparoscopic) procedures are performed at adjacent St. Gabriel’s Hospital where four new surgical suites will be completed in 2008.
Same-day procedures usually take two hours or less to complete. These minimally-invasive procedures reduce blood loss, speed recovery time and, typically, require only oral medications to control postoperative pain. Many individuals prefer the convenience and atmosphere of one-day surgery because there is less competition for attention with more serious surgical cases.
Areas of the body treated by general surgery include the stomach, liver, intestines, appendix, breasts, thyroid gland, salivary glands, some arteries and veins and the skin.
