Vision Testing

An complete eye exam by a qualified physician will protect your vision by detecting eye problems at their earliest and most treatble stage.

Family Medical Center offers a variety of on-site eye exams for children and adults.

Infants should have their first eye exam at six months of age. Certain conditions that require attention can be detected early. Your child’s vision will grow dramatically during the first year of life.

Pre-School children need periodic eye exams as their vision becomes fine tuned. A complete check should be done by age three to spot problems that may affect a child’s quality of life. Another exam is need before entering school. If a child’s vision requires correction during this time an thorough exam is recommended every year.

School-Age children should have a complete eye exam by a doctor every two to three years even if school screening exams are normal. Poor eyesight may be the cause of a child’s learning difficulties and undetected visual problems will affect quality of life.

Adults should get an eye exam every two to three years, or more often if corrective lenses are needed or there is a family history of eye disease.

These factors may influence age-related eye disease:

  • Glaucoma (you or a blood relative).
  • Diabetes
  • Eye injury or eye surgery.
  • Change in vision over the last 12 months.
  • Pain in or around the eye.
  • Age 65 or older.
  • African-American, Hispanic or Latino, age 40 years or older.
  • Two years since your last eye exam.
  • If you suspect you are not seeing correctly or have an eye problem, you should arrange for a professional eye exam regardless of this risk assessment.
