Holter Heart Monitoring
Your doctor may ask you to wear a holter monitor to study how your heart behaves during the course of a day.
A holter monitor is a small battery-powered device that continuously records the rhythms of your heart, typically for a period of 24 hours.
Five small conducting patches are placed on your chest and connected to the monitor which is usually carried in a pocket or worn in a small pouch around your neck or waist.
You keep a diary of your activities during the test. When you return the monitor, St. Cloud Heart Center examines the records and looks for irregular heart rhythms.
No special preparation is required. The technician will start the monitor and show you how to replace the electrodes should they fall off or become loose.
The test is painless and there is no risk associated with wearing a holter monitor.
